EUROPEAN PROGRAMS

Council of Europe

Since 1990, and in the frame of these educational projects, the Council of Europe manages and animates a network of specialized centers on educational exchange subjects along with all the countries who are members of the Council. Switzerland is represented by the ch Youth exchange. The network system has organized numerous projects described in the publications that can be obtained for free from the Council of Europe.

European Union
 
The European union has been managing and financing for several years the exchange programs between students and between teachers which are periodically intensified or redesigned. The SOCRATES program, also accessible to Swiss schools, has been functioning since 1995. Its goal is to encourage the European collaboration in formation matters. The following fields of SOCRATES are of particular interest for the schools :
  COMENIUS

  • twinning up of schools and European Educational Projects
  • intercultural education
  • continued training of transnational students in the professional circle.
  • LINGUA
  • Encouragement in the acquisition of foreign languages provided by the basic training programs and in-service teacher training programs, student exchange, and teaching materials, etc.

    OTHER INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS
     

  • Neighbouring regions
  • In the frame of educational projects over the borders, also in a number of Swiss and European regions as well as the associations active in this field, (The conference of the Rhine Superior, the Assembly of European regions, etc.) have already been able to accumulate some experience. However, these projects do not have a central documentation.

  • The UNESCO Associated Schools Project (ASP)
  • Worldwide, 3'700 schools of all types of degrees belong to the system of schools associated to UNESCO. Many amongst them maintain regular contacts with other schools that are associated with other countries.
    These schools share ideas and the presuppositions of UNESCO in the field of education for tolerance and peace, human rights, solidarity, protection of the environment, and understanding between the people of other nations, etc.
    It is free to join this system, the schools who would like to participate must put themselves forward as a candidate. They then undertake to accomplish the projects in the field of themes already chosen.
